Situated in Palm Beach County, Lake Worth is a city with an estimated population of 34,910. The area was initially called "Lake Worth" named from the body of water along its eastern border, but is now commonly known as the Lake Worth Lagoon. The lake was named after General William J. Worth, who led U.S. forces during the last part of the Second Seminole War. Its original inhabitants were a Native American tribe known as the Jaega, who settled on the section of the Florida Atlantic coast in the areas of Martin and Palm Beach Counties.
